Bridal Drift Carp
My buddy Chris (his brother joined us for a bit later) and I went and spent the day at Bridal Drift shortly after Christmas for a bit of “pap gooi” in hopes of getting some nice carp. What a way to end the year with the last fishing trip of 2009 being the best of the whole year. We arrived early at Bridal to find the water very very low, and In my guestemation probably around 40% capacity. It doesn’t take a genius to see how bad the water situation is.
We settled down to a spot a little way off from the camping areas and by 9am a nice red sunburn was already starting to take hold, and not one bite to show for it yet. We stuck it out another hour before finding another spot. Withing minutes on the new spot, my ratchet was first to scream. These carp fight hard, and my first fish of the day, even though only about 2/3 kilos got my adrenaline pumping nicely. We spent the rest of the day running between screaming ratchets and netting for each other, with the size of fish increasing as the day wore on, Its been a while since I’ve come home with sore arms, the last time probably my inter-school light tackle boat days. Awesome fun on light tackle. Between all the carp we also landed quite a few Moguls (not sure if this even the correct name, can someone verify?)
Herewith some pics of some of the fish caught:
